Excellent information. Colleges usually make sure instructors know "about" accommodation, but not many instructors know how to implement it.

 

Having been an instructor, I know a student who has course-specific suggestions for accommodation is more likely to get help than one who is more vague about what would be useful. Many times instructors don't know how to go about something like reducing extraneous stimuli, and they not have time or inclination to track down someone who can explain how to do it.

It helps if you can find a professor who is accomodating, who doesn't think the student is just being "lazy".  My son encountered a professor who basically looked down on him, instead of trying to help him.
