What did you forget today? Over the years I have received emails from many adults with ADHD. One recurring theme in these emails is how difficult the symptom of forgetfulness is. Of all the different ADHD symptoms, this, according to one woman, is the worst. Her forgetfulness has labeled her "laz...

I use many of the prompts suggested in your discussion on forgetfulness. If it's a REALLY important thing I have to take with me somewhere the next day, I will go ahead and put it in my car with a note about it on my steering wheel. If I am not yet prepared by the time I am too tired, I tape a note on the front door (we live in a condo, so only have one entrance/exit). This is not as good because it still allows me to procrastinate.
If I might forget an appointment made months earlier, I make a point of asking the office to call or email me the day before-my Psychiatrist's office always calls- too many of his patients have ADHD. If they won't, I try to put it in the calendar on my computer and cell phone. I still have problems using regular calendars- I have no idea what day it is, much less the date somedays. Notebooks have never worked for me. I then try on what I plan to wear, having everything out- clothes, jewelry, shoes, even makeup. I always run so late, even doing this does not guarantee I will arrive on time, but it helps. Also put meds out for that day the night before. One of the worst things to do before being fully dressed and ready with everything is to (just for a minute) check my emails. I completely lose track of time when on the computer.
In case you think I am the least bit organized, I'm not. In addition to ADHD, I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. The three of these are a really bad combination. I first have to try to cllmb out of my brain fog to even try to function most days.
