It is a question every parent asks: How do I know the difference between ADHD symptoms and simple misbehaviors?
It is confusing. Suppose you walk into the living room to find your child bouncing on the sofa or running through the house like an out of control rocket. Is this hyperactivity, comb...

Thank you. Very clear and helpful.
Thanks. I am glad you found this helpful. I know when my son was growing up (he is an adult now) it was one of the questions we always asked. I am sure many other parents ask this as well. It is always difficult to know and then, as parents, you feel guilty punishing, feeling as if you are punishing your child for having ADHD. It can be quite confusing.

With my little boy, often when he gets upset, he seems not to be able to calm himself down, and keeps "upping the ante" until I yell at him, really loud, and then he cries and calms down. He can be angry, hitting, throwing thing, overturning kitchen chairs (who knows why- just because I asked him to get dressed or come to the table to eat (even after those 15 min, 10 minute, and 5 minute "almost time" reminders). He seems to make me get loud before he can respond. I do not like to yell. I start by talking very calmly, but this seems to make him madder at me. Then i get more "matter of fact" and he gets more defiant and gets physical. Then - eventually, I will yell, and then it ends, with him crying and calming down. I feel like such a meany, and hate it that I yelled. I am a big adult and he is a little kid... makes me feel terrible. This can happen when I say "time out" to him, or after the reminders. it happens about twice a week.... we have been, and still are, going to psycholigical counseling for some help with this....... Do other moms go through this too? Am I the only "meany-mommy" who falls into this trap, and yells?
