I run a houseful of ADHD, and without medication things get out of hand.  Four of my 5 kids take medication because their impulsivity made/ makes them unsafe- some run into the road, others can't stop climbing trees, others hit and ask clarifying questions later- we are a more pleasant group to be around when we take our medication, and are able to learn safety and communication lessons because we can pay attention and stop hopping.
