I suffered from migraines for years and it was almost a 50/50 chance whether or not the medicine I was taking would help me or not. Then I found a product called the Deka Titan. It looks like a wrist watch but it is actually a pain reliever. It's a little pricey but ended up saving me money since I no longer pay for pain meds. The directions say that you should start wearing it as soon as you start to feel pain but I have been wearing mine everyday only taking it off to go to sleep and I haven't had a migraine in over 6 months. The company offers a 30 day money back guarantee and there are no side effects so I would recommend this to EVERYONE who suffers from migraines.
My old primary told me to become an expert on any disorder I had to protect myself, because doctors can't know everything. This has proved to be some valulable information.
I have an inherited clotting disorder, Factor V Leiden, and can not take BCPs or HRT. I had the GYN try to prescribe BCPs for just about every female issue I had. When I reminded them of the FVL they would say, "Oh yeah, you can't take them."
I have created a log of every medication I have taken in the last 5 years. I keep start/stop dates, doses, reason for taking the medication and any side effects. I put my labs on a spreadsheet, so it would make it easier to see trends. I will say Excel is great for creating these logs.
Keeping a log of hospitalizations, dates and the reason for the stay is another good log to keep.
