10 Reasons You Should Find a New Doctor

By Eileen Bailey, Health Guide Monday, October 24, 2011
This month I have talked a lot about becoming a partner with your doctor in your health care. In order to receive the best medical care, it is essential for you to be aware of your condition and to follow through on instructions, but your doctor also must treat you with respect and be willing to list...

Can you look for a new doctor? Someone who will help you find the right treatment? What types of behaviors are you seeing that you would say your doctors are bad?

Let us know more about your situation.

Hey Eileen

Check, check, uh huh...yep. lol

We are currently in this situation where my son's neurologist is not working out for us in a major way.  It is an extremely frustrating and maddening experience to deal with a doctor who is not dependable, inappropriate, or inept.

Your list is both accurate and very helpful.

Thanks for writing about this topic.

I hope that you are able to find a doctor more responsive to your son's needs. We all have the right to have our doctors answer our questions and treat us with the respect we deserve. We, after all, are their "customers." We have the right to demand a certain level of responsiveness and should look elsewhere when that doesn't happen. If more patients did that, more doctors would understand that the patient must always come first.

I very much agree Eileen.

I think in some cases one puts up with less than stellar service because there is a lack of specialists, the insurance may only take certain doctors, and the time and distance of travel.  Even when you have insurance...you may not have a lot of choices.  It is very sad when someone's health and well-being are compromised due to these reasons.  Lene Andersen from our RA site (who we know very well :>)) wrote an article once saying that being a patient can be a full time job.  You add on being a caregiver to this and it is like two full time jobs.  I am learning firsthand that I must be my son's best advocate.  And it is hard.

Anyways..I could go on with this topic but thanks for giving this information to members...they really need to see it and embrace it.
