I have read that Asperger's syndrome and ADHD are very similar in the way they present themselves as far as behaviour goes. I have been to a therapeutic adhd boarding school where I was diagnosed with ADD. Is it possible that I have both?
Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.
Some experts believe that you can have both ADHD and autism, that they are separate disorders and it is possible that you can have both, just as you can have both diabetes and a heart condition. However, other experts believe that you cannot have both, that having one condition means the other is not present.
A qualified mental health provider should be able to give you a complete evaluation and determine whether you have ADHD or Asperger's syndrome. While some symptoms may overlap, there are enough distinct differences and symptoms specific to each disorder, that a doctor can tell the difference.
