Eileen Bailey Health Guide
  • John McManamy, one of the Health Guides at, has written two very interesting posts on the topic of do ADHD and bipolar disorder overlap.

In the two part series, John talks about inattention and impulse control. In his second post, he points out the similarities between the diagnostic definitions of hypomania and inattention:

"Check out this DSM-IV symptom for hypomania:

Distractibility (i.e., attention too easily drawn to unimportant or irrelevant external stimuli), as reported or observed.

Now compare it to this symptom for ADD:

Is often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli."
