I hope that everyone has been enjoying the Many Faces of ADHD so far. It is important that we all learn from each other, share experiences and most of all, know that we are not alone in our struggles. It is with this in mind that I began this project. So far we have the following "fa...

Elieen you did it again. Gave me another AHA Moment. In a course I developed for college students with ADHD and in workshops I use the concept of many faces of ADHD. Mine include Dr. Amen as well as those of Carla Nelson, Lynn Weiss, and one more that I can't think of.
I read a book, Teaching For the Two-Sided Mind, by Linda Verlee Williams. In the book she talks about the difference between description and definition. I believe that many persons with ADHD are experiential learners. In the workshops that I have done in the past and in my previous work as a learning specialist, I express my beleif that we, ADDers, learn through description- stories, analogies, etc. and not through definition, lables, ext. Definition depersonalizes the information and description allows that personal connection which in my mind is connected to how memory works with the ADD mind.
Bottom line- I think we all derive a better understanding of ADHD through the many faces of ADHD than we do from some defintion of symptoms listed in the DSM IV.
So I thank you for your foresight and continued work on your project of Many faces of ADHD.
Have a great day.
