Several years ago I visited a support group near me that is widely known with many regular attendees. However I did not find it helpful, because the majority of individuals who attended were extremely emotionally needy and not particularly emotionally healthy. Quite frankly, it was a waste of my time. It seemed like a big room full of people who needed a lot of therapy. Being a mental health professional myself, it was too much like work! I gave it a second try, just to see if I'd caught it on a "bad" night. But no, 2nd night, more of the same. I made quick tracks out of there.
