dexadrine and coffee
Grandma Lise
Monday, January 28, 2008 at 04:15 PMHere's some questions...
Do stimulants calm or energize you?
Check your prescription bottle. Are you taking dexedrine or dexedrine spansules?
Do you have another diagnosis such as anxiety? Does bipolar run in your family?
Do you normally have coffee in the late afternoon with no ill effects on your sleep? How strong was the coffee?
Do you have access to a doctor, such as a child or adult psychiatrist, who is knowledgeable and skilled in diagnosing AD/HD and finding the right med, combination of meds, and dosage(s)?
A good book to read is Healing ADD by Daniel Amen, M.D. It has a good overview of medications and nutritional supplements helpful for AD/HD and other conditions. That may be a good place to start as you continue to work with your doctor to find a treatment that works well for you.

Same Prescription
Anonymous
Monday, March 02, 2009 at 12:32 AMI have the same drugs prescribed to me. When I first started on the dexadrine there was about a week of feeling high strung, after which the feeling subsided. THere is however a known issue of effexor and dexadrine causing a feeling of being over energized. He pharmacist should have warned you when the prescription was filled.

McKenziebell,
Sorry, I do not know that much about Effexor and side effects so I can't really answer your question. However, medications have a different affect on different people so that the reaction you had may not happen to others.
I wish I could give you more information but I am not qualified to do so. Possibly, your pharmacist would be able to give you more info on the different side effects of the medications and possible interactions with each other and caffeine. I would start there.
