People who deny ADHD

By Jeffrey's Mom Saturday, January 23, 2010

My son Jeff, had many ADHD challenges and only when he got into the 5th grade did his teacher agree. He struggled all his life.  Many family members do not agree that ADHD exists, especially some older ones. Jeffrey is no longer with us. He died at 21.

Hi

I am reading this and my heart goes out to you.  I cannot imagine the pain you must be feeling in losing your son.  Is there more you would like to share about his life and struggles? Anything which you wish to write...we are listening.

ADHD most definitely exists and poses a very difficult challenge for anyone who has it.  I think that many older people may not understand this as it was not fully researched or defined as a disorder until the 1980's.  I have written about the history of how ADHD has been viewed in the past and present.

I want to thank you for reaching out here to let people know...yes ADHD is very real.  And it does greatly affect the lives of not only everyone who has this disorder but also all the friends and loved ones of that individual.

Again...I am so sorry you have lost your son.  I cannot imagine a pain worse than losing a child.  You provide us all with a very poignant message today.  Thank you.

I am so very sorry for your loss. My son also has ADHD (age 25) and has struggled with that as well as other psychiatric conditions all his life. I know first hand, how much all of this has impacted his life and those around him on a daily basis.

Please know that here, on ADHDCentral.com, we will not judge you, we feel your loss and your pain. We will offer support through your struggles.

Again, I am sorry.

Eileen
