    Welcome Angela,

Probably the best place to start would be to find an ADD group near you to get a referral to a psychologist to get your son evaluated. The groups are a good source of referral because they know which professionals are specialized in diagnosing and treating ADD. To find a group near you, go to http://www.chadd.org/http://www.add.org/, and http://www.ldanatl.org/.

If your son is having behavior problems, a book that our local ADHD Clinic uses is Transforming the Difficult Child: The Nurtured Heart Approach by Howard Glasser. I read the book last year. It changed how I interact with everyone, not just children. It's a positive, nurturing method that most children (and adults) will respond too. You can learn more about the book by reading reviews on it at your favorite online bookseller. I use Amazon a lot.

The above listed websites all have information on what AD/HD is.

There's also articles here. Try typing ADHD Symptoms In Children into the search box. I found about eight articles that way. After you've learned a little more about ADD, perhaps you'll feel comfortable sharing what's going on with your son. Let us know if you have questions.

I am so glad you stopped by here. There is a great deal of information on ADHD here. If you let us know about some of the things you are seeing, we might be able to provide more specific information for you.

In the meantime, there is a very good intro article:

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Angela,

There are some great resources online here to help you understand what might be happening. Has your doctor told you that he might have adhd? I can give you some links to information that might help you understand what is happening and will help you ask the right questions of the doctor so you and he or she can best manage your son's care.

Eileen gave you the link to a great overview of ADHD. There is also a symptoms database here where you can check out what your son is experiencing to see if it might be a symptom of the ADHD. Once your doctor has confirmed that he is ADHD, there is a treatments database where you can read about the latest treatments being offered for ADHD patients and you can also read about any medications your son has been prescribed here.

I hope this helps. Please stay in touch and let us know how you and your son are doing!

    Angela,

Have you discussed your concerns with your son's doctor. That would be a good place to start. I hope that you are able to read some of the articles referenced above, it will give you some good information.

There is also an article on "When to See a Doctor"

When to See a Doctor for your School Age Child with ADD/ADHD

As well as an article on

     The Out Of Control Child

Talk with your son's doctor about some of the things you are seeing and ask if he can be evaluated for ADHD. That would be a good place to sart.
