The value of caring

By grandma lise Thursday, April 17, 2008

That was Tuesday. On Wednesday afternoon, my friend and her son were called to come and pick up the letter. It was decided to readmit my friend's son to school the following day. We were relieved.

What really touched my heart was a conversation the mother and her son had the evening before, following the hearing.

She commented that she had noticed during the hearing that his eyes often became watery. He said yes, and went on to say that a friend had told him that if he cried it would help his case.

The mother asked, "Is that why you were crying?" "No", he said. "I was trying to hold back the tears."

"Was it because you were sorry for what you did?" "No", said the son.

"Was it because you were afraid?" "No", said the son.

"I don't understand. What was it then?" The son replied, "I didn't realize how many people care about me."

Thanks for sharing that Grandma Lise! I am so glad he got readmitted.  I hope that boy never has to be afraid again. How lucky they are to have a friend like you too!!!! :D.

Oh my. Oh my.

I was on the edge of my seat, reading furiously to see what the outcome would be for this young man. When I read your last sentence, there were tears in *my* eyes.

You made a difference in this young man's life and he won't forget that. Lessons learned, and hard ones at that.

We need to believe in our young people but more than that, we need to show it. And you, obviously, know that.

Thanks for sharing this gem.

Grandma Lise

What an absolutely wonderful story, thank you so much for sharing it with us. Sometimes we forget just how fragile the young are and how insecure they really feel about themselves. To know that you have made a difference in someone's life is a wonderful thing.
