If you are not happy with the advice from your doctor, you are able to request a second opinion. Many insurance companies will cover the cost of second opinions. You can call the customer service number for your insurance company and find out if this will be covered by your insurance plan.

The question of medication in the summer has been debated for quite a while. Some doctors believe that a break from medication is good and for children that are small or not gaining weight, this may give them a chance to catch up. Other doctors believe the consistency of medication is important and that since ADHD is not just a school day disorder but impacts social and family life, medication should continue through the summer.

There is an article that provides additional information:

The decision to take or suspend medication in the summer should be a discussion between you and your son's doctor, based on individual situations. Preferrably, one person does not determine what is best based on their beliefs.
