question

By Rollercoaster Wednesday, May 14, 2008

hi,I'm new to both this message board and to adhd and I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who struggles with worrying, and obsessive thinking at times? or maybe that's just something most people don't talk about?

normal in any way?

Hi Rollercoaster,

Welcome to ADHDcentral.com- we're glad you're here!

To answer your question, yes...it's very common for people with ADHD to worry and obsess about things. I see it as part of how our hyperactive brain works. We seem to need to be thinking about things all the time and if we can't find something, well...we FIND something to worry and obsess about. I know first hand that it is not fun.

In fact, I wrote a SharePost on the topic. It's titled: Stop Obsessing! Taming the Worry Wart and Rumination.

Hope this helps.

Terry

Don't feel alone, it's new to me as well.  My little girl had a livertransplant when she was 15 month old. She's turning 6 in July and she is adhd.  She does not use any medication for it.  I would like to know more about it and read about people that got adhd. Thank you.

I am new to this message board too. But not new to ADHD. I have had bouts with very obsessive thinking in the past and I think I have worried most of my life away, these are not resolved issues, but neither are as bad now as use to be. I have had to

find strategies to re-direct my obsessive thinking. Keeping busy and occupied, to have less time alone to myself to think too much... has helped. I found that most of my obsessive thinking occurred when I was driving, so putting on some music or radio helped at those times. I have obsessed over things that in retrospect were totally ludicrious, but other things were more legitimate.

I have been a chronic worrier. More about that later... another time.
