Adderol causes FALSE POSITIVE for METH on drug screens

By Ashley c Monday, February 28, 2011

If you or anyone you know has had a false positive drug screen for meth and wasnt using meth at the time. If you are prescribed adderol, than that is what triggered the false result for meth. Myself along with many others have dealt with this very issue and so forth I have typed up a petition that Im sending to the highest offices in order to get something done about this havoc issue. Awareness is the main key and our lives depend on the outcome of drug screens.

Thanks for sharing this information with us.

We do have some additional information on the site about this topic:

Employment Drug Screening and ADHD Medications

According to the article, the Epilepsy Foundation, based on concerns that seizure medication may give a "false positive" on testing, much like ADHD medications may, indicate that employees:

* Should be given the opportunity to present medical evidence to show documentation on the medical condition and legitimate, medically prescribed treatment

* Should be able to request a second, independent test to confirm the results

* Be provided with a written copy of the results of the test

* Be given the opportunity to appeal any decision resulting in loss of employment or any other adverse actions that took place in the workplace as a result of the positive drug screening

* Have any medical information disclosed through the drug testing process remain confidential

There is also some information in the article on what you can do before and during your drug screening to help protect yourself.

I was precribed adderol back in november of 2009. I have drug screens once a month, the past 3 months 3 drugscreens have tested positive for meth. I have not touched meth, so the only thing I believe that could have possibly failed me for meth is my adderol. I just got out of jail 2day after a wk of being locked up for just that failing for meth when I dont do it. Howis it that my med adderol showed up for meth. I was almost sent to prison just by being honest and holding my ground when arguing that meth has not been in body to have failed for that. Please believe me when I say I have not touched it. why is this happening and is there any link i can get to informing that it does indeeed show up as meth b/c no lawauthority believes me, they think im not being honest with myslf when i know for fact im i am

Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 01:50 PM Yes if u read my post right above urs from 1-25-11, I describe how Ive recently been done by the court system due to falsely failed drug screens. I dont know exactly why Adderol is indeed showing up as meth on a drug test but im living proof that it is as well as many others that has dealt with this same issue. I mean there is people out there that is losing their jobs, going to jail, and not to mention just flat out embarrased from the false results. Im still on a hard core mission in researching any and all info I can to give and make some kind of sense out of this havoc issue. Of course I feel as if the legal system could care less about determining why it is or believeing it truly is false results b/c a failed drug test to them means more money in their pockets, so its almost lik fighting a losing battle. Now if adderol wasnt a behavioral medicine I might could understand them not having any concern to how it falsely failing for meth would effect the average joe. But a person that has been diagnosed with adhd with out a doubt needs this medication in order to lead a normal life. And so forth, its like a slap in the face when whosoever conducts a drug screen and determines it to be a positive screen for meth w/o considering the adderol the subject has been prescribed treating behavior issues. Exspecially if that subject is found guilty and punished for the falsely failed drug screen. I pray there is someone out there reading or is made aware of this life destroying fact who has some authority and does something/anything to establish why its shows up, how it can be fixed, and most certainly put an end to the ones who hold office within criminal law who are taking advantage of the situration by getting rich off the ones who are in drug court, court refferals, or on probation. Im sure there is people out there that abuses this medication, b/c for every drug theres abusers but in the case were a person clinically needs it, well in my opinion they shouldnt be treated any different than someone who has to take insulin or heart meds in order to stay alive, So yes ADDEROL shows on (a) Drug Screen as AMPHETAMINES and METHPHETAMINES. Ive found information informing of a certain test that has to be conducted in order to determine that it is not Meth. So I guess in reality its up to the test conductor to have the final judgement and say on whether or not you are a METH HEAD or somebody thats just trying to live as normal as you can even if it takes a medication to help you do that.

Meth IS in adderoll!

Actually thru research Ive learned it is that b/c meth is made from a  base of amphetimines (cold/allergy meds) that is what triggers the false meth positive on a drug screen due to the adderal being an amphetimine all by it self. The only way to differinciate between the 2 is to have a gcms performed on the blood/urine that showed the false positive, that test has to be requested by the drugtested person. And only then will it break down the metabalites between the 2 drugs resulting in ruling out the street drug meth.
