I would like to introduce myself, for I am new here, but not new to ADHD. Today begins my new journey here at Health Central, where I will be joining Eileen Bailey as one of the ADHD experts. I am really looking forward to being part of this wonderful community. I've already received a very warm welcome!
Let me tell you a little bit about myself....
I wear a zillion different "ADHD hats", so I come to you with the advantage of understanding this from many perspectives, which include:
- Having ADHD myself
- Having a daughter with ADHD
- Being a psychotherapist and consultant who works with people who have AD/HD
- Being the AD/HD spouse
- ....And probably more things that I've forgotten for now!
But what's important is not so much that I happen to have ADHD, but that I am a woman, a wife, a mother, a therapist, artist, musician, etc. etc. who happens to also have ADHD. To me, that is the key. That ADHD doesn't define who or what I am, but rather, it explains part of who I am.
More about my background...
I am the author of the book, "Survival Tips for Women with ADHD." By the way, that book would never have seen the light of day had it not been for a wonderful editor who walked me through each phase of this project. Which is another theme I hope to be writing a lot about here- accepting the idea of reaching out and asking for help when we need it!
As director of ADD Consults (www.addconsults.com), I have met many many people from around the world. I absolutely love connecting with people, which is why I'm so excited to be part of the Health Central team.
I'm also the past vice president of ADDA (www.add.org), where I spent many years serving on the board in various capacities. And I was also the CHADD (www.chadd.org) coordinator for many years, here in Oakland County/Michigan.
If you'd like to read more about me, please check out my profile. At any rate, I look forward to writing articles and posts here, and of course, being available to you.
I look forward to meeting all of you; please introduce yourselves!
