When ADHD Throws You a Curve Ball

The old saying goes; there are two things in life you can't avoid: death and taxes.   We know that throughout our lives, we'll experience one crisis or another. Death of a loved one, divorce, illness, financial hardships, major disappointments- there's no escaping the realities of life. W...

As someone whois facing many "changes" in my life, it's good to know that I am not crazy or stupid for not easily adjusting to these events!  I have been going through an awful, expensive divorce for almost 4 years.  I have primary custody of my 2 teenagers and full custody of 6 dogs, 2 cats, 1 parrot, & a horse -- while holding down a full time job as an eighth grade teacher.  I have lived with constant chaos & a messy house throughout these divorce proceedings.  Of course I want my life to improve, but I can't give up our pets & I can't control the court situation.  I am in therapy & gradually trying to establish some balance & routine back into my life.  I could totally relate to your experience with your puppy.  Keep sharing your experiences -- it does help to know that I am not alone . . .

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your comments.

My, you do have your hands full! Adding ADHD to the mix makes it all the more complicated and diffcult, but you aren't alone. Come back often and get the support you need. I'm really glad you're getting some counseling to help with all of this.

Hang in there!

It is so funny that today, I just became a member of this site! I too have just recently purchased a puppy and am having some overwhelming thoughts. I was diagnosed with ADHD about 3 weeks ago, although it has been a serious problem for me for years! I was sure that I knew what I was getting myself into when purchasing my puppy.  Does it sound bad for me to admit that I am resenting my puppy for disrupting my "schedule"? (whatever a schedule is anyway...) I need help!!!
