Need some advice as a concerned husband

By knarf002 Monday, June 18, 2012

Wife was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism after having the last of our children.
She wants to take dextradmenphine with Levothroxin is this a safe combo?
the doctor has not returned any of of our calls and has not advised here on this issue. She is in perfecct health other than the above. She is scared about gaining weight...TERRIFIED is this a safe combo of drugs? I told her not to take Dextroamenphine untill the doctor says Ok and she has not as requested but is really thinking about it. Any advice?

Thank you for your question and welcome to Health Central. This is a site for ADHD, not thyroid disorders and I am not a medical professional, however, I will try to give you some information.

I used Walgreens.com drug interaction tool. Because you did not indicate the dosage, I chose one in the middle range for both medications. According to this, there are no interactions between these medications.

You can also talk with your pharmacist, who should be aware of possible interactions and can give you further information on these two medications and what side effects you should be aware of.

It is important that all doctors are aware of all medications your wife is taking so that you can be told about any possible interactions. You may also want to fill all prescriptions at the same pharmacy. Many will automatically flag medications if there is a dangerous interaction between two medications prescribed to the same person.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I take my meds for Thyroid every morning and wait for about 45 minutes to have my breakfast.  I don't take any other meds until the one for my thyroid is taken and absorbed into my system.

I don't know about all the other meds you are asking about. The best thing is to ask your pharmacist.  He would know if they interact badly.

As far as I understand... not a problem taking any thing as long as you give your body a chance to have the meds for the thyroid without any other competition.  so don't take anything for at least 40 mins.... then you should be ok...
