Hello my name is Trina and I am brand new to this website. I have been searching for someplace for quite sometime where I felt like I could fit in, I am excited to join the community here and hopefully be able to build some relationships with others that can understand so here is a little about me...........I am 39 years old and I was born with ADHD and SPD(Sensory Perception Disorder) As a child no one knew anything about either disorder and felt my parents should put me in an institution. Of course my parents did not. The challenges to get through every day life have been a struggle from my earliest of memories. I have always felt like I am on the inside looking out. As a child I was never medicated and as an adult I tried medication on for a time but the side effects were worse that the actual disorders and nothing could ever make me feel the "normal" i so badly wanted to feel. I have chosen to stay unmedicated at this point. My goal in becoming part of this website is to be able to find others like me that can understand. My family does their best to understand but I can see its still dificult and my husband just flat out doesnt want to understand so here I hope to find a safe place to just be me.

Trina, welcome to ADHDCentral. We are glad you have found the site and I hope you have taken some time to look around. There is a lot of great information on the site, including many, many articles on adult ADHD.
The share posts are also a wonderful way to share your experiences, both your successes and your struggles. No one here will judge you, we will listen and offer support.
Please take some time to post comments on posts that you feel relate to your life. Just as we can offer you support, your support of others will help them.
Again, welcome.
Eileen Bailey
Welcome, Trina! I can totally relate to what you're going through. I wasn't diagnosed with ADD until I was 24 and my mom wasn't diagnosed until she was 57! Better late than never though, right? :-)
Wishing you the best of luck on your journey -- you're in the right place. Eileen Bailey is the most knowledable person on the subject of ADHD that I've ever met - more so than my own doctor. This is an amazing community.
Thank you so much Kate for your comment. I am looking forward to meeting lots of new friends here in this network. Please feel free to send me a message anytime I would love to visit with you more.
Dear Trina,
We are so happy to have you in our HCN community. I have been CEO of my own business for 30 years and I have always felt somewhat disfunctional but never understood why! I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and am not taking medication. I am happy to finally understand, and have my husband undestand, that I am "wired" differently than most people. In my business I get distracted easily and have difficulty focusing on one task.. I try to multitask but always seem to drop at least one of the balls I have in the air.. I am always losing things, like my keys! I just wanted to check in with you and let you know you are not alone. This is a great website with loads of pertinent information and a wonderful, supported community!
Cathy
