I have been on Wellbutrin XL and now started Focalin XR (5mg). Wellbutrin helped my mood but not many ADHD symptoms. I also have high blood pressure (mostly controlled through antihypertensive medication) and I have a strong family history of heart disease - yeah, I know the risks. So far, my blood pressure has seemed lower (maybe because it is calming me down?). I have not seen any literature to support a stimulant LOWERING blood pressure (although I do know that stimulants calm those with ADHD). I am curious if anyone has had the same experience or have resources to support that this can occur.
Even if the Focalin doesn't raise my blood pressure, I wonder what the long term effects are going to be on my blood vessels and heart muscle if I stay on it? It kind of goes back to the age old question of weighing it all out - does one suffer from ADHD or risk losing it all to harm from the meds (even though for most people they are very safe). If the focalin works out, I may go off the Wellbutrin. I also am not going to have my Focalin dosage raised until I see how I respond and am off the wellbutrin.
