VISION OF A REVOLUTIONARY SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN WITH ADD/ADHD
None of us would assume that Einstein was easy to educate. Mozart, the Clark brothers, Newton, De Vinci, the Wright Brothers and Benjamin Franklin were also problematic students. The national ADD/ADHD organization has intensively researched their biographies and concluded that they and approximately eighty other revolutionary geniuses had ADD/ADHD.
The positive side of ADD/ADHD is that the individuals are usually enthusiastic, empathetic and have high energy. They are disorganized, but it may be because they have one intense focus. The focus usually manifests later in life. It has been suggested that they are genetically coded with an ability that is necessary for human survival and evolution. They have a sixth sense and are gifted at problem solving.
Some are of the opinion that students with ADD/ADHD engage in ‘lateral thinking’, which is a method of thinking concerned with changing concepts and perceptions. ‘Lateral thinking’ is about reasoning that is not immediately obvious. It is about ideas that may not be obtainable by only using traditional step-by-step logic. Students with ADD/ADHD are ‘outside the box’. The existing educational system would like for them to conform to the norm.
Three to five percent of the world’s population has ADD/ADHD. Only half of the students with the condition complete high school. If their destiny is to contribute to survival and evolution, the non-profit organization of ‘A Child’s Miracle Mind Inc.’, a 501c3, would like to provide an alternative educational environment for these children so that their purpose can be better fulfilled.
