dealing with problems getting ready for school

By jeni1118 Thursday, August 28, 2008

My son Ian is becoming even more uncooperative in the morning getting ready for school.

He does not listen, he is very verbally abusive to me. I have spoke with his therapist about this but nothing has worked.

Sorry it has taken so long to respond to you. I hope that things have gotten a little better for you. Mornings were always tough for me to when my son was younger.

Does your son take medication? If so, you might want to try giving him the medication about one half hour before actually waking him up. That way, by the time he gets up the medication is already beginning to work. This might help.

Also, a behavior modification program for the mornings might help. I have always found that some "fun" discipline goes a long way. You can read some examples of how I have set this up in my house:

Games to Motivate your Children

There is also some information on the site about creating a discipline program:

Creating a Discipline Process at Home

Besides these, there are a great many articles on parenting a child with ADHD:

I am glad that you have found this site. There is so much information (and we update all the time so come back often to see what new articles have been posted) and it is a great way to share info with other people and read about their experiences. I know sometimes you feel as if you are the only person dealing with these issues, but you are not alone!

Let me know how everything is going.

Eileen
