My son was having problems in school for 3 years before he was diagnosed with ADD. His confidence really suffered. After we started Focalin (Concerta gave him too many stomach aches), he really improved. It was a gradual improvement.
My daughter was diagnosed with ADD in 1st grade, and we started medication right away. The teacher always knows when I've forgotten the meds. It was a much faster improvement for her.
Good luck.
Not all school systems WANT to take the extra time to deal with excentric children..... Please keep that in mind. I do have a daughter who was diagnosed at 2 yrs old with ADHD, she does take medication and it has been a god sent, but the issues you have seem to be more of a lack of educational enforcement. Before deciding medication is the best option ask yourself one question, " can i handle his behavior?" if the answer is yes then why cant the teachers? He did well in preschool and his grades are fine maybe the problem isnt your son, maybe its the lack of patience of the teachers...... best of luck
Put him on medicine,it will help him over time,he should grow out of it.. I take medicine,I have my Adhd for life, but you can manage it, My 8,and 3 yr olds both have it. Medicine did wonders for my 8 yr old in school,my 3 yr old is on his way... so your child should be ok once on medicine. His life will be better then it is now,his grades went up,and his attention span went better, and his school grades went up! Good luck!
I would have to say put him on medication. Mydaughter was in 3rd grade before I got her diagnosed. I do not have ADHD but my brother definitely has ADD. Since my daughter started kindergarten all I kept gettting told was about probelms with her behavior, but they would not say oh I think she may have ADHD. It took for me to realize she had it and then get her diagnosed and eventually put on medication. I was very skeptical about putting my daughter on medication, but in the long run it was the best desicion I have ever made. This past school year she made honor roll 3 semesters. The beginning of the year was not so great, we realized that her dosage was too little so she needed a higher dosage, but once that was straightened out, she did wondefully throughout the school year. My daughter is entereing 7th grade in Sept and she has been selected for honors ENglish and Math, without the medication I do not beleive she would be able to concentrate enough to get the grades she gets in school, so I would have to defintely say put him on the medication. I highly recommend it. Hope this helps.
