I am so glad that I found this site. It was suggested to me by my shrink that I do some research on how to better deal with my ADHD, and I landed here. I'm a recovering addict diagnosed as an adult with ADHD. At first I thought that it just ment that I couldn't pay attention. Boy was I wrong. There are so many more facets to this, it is unbelievable. I am also finding out that most of the symptoms of ADHD mirror the feelings of addiction. I am finding it very difficult to distinguish between the 2. I had been self medicating for about 29years, so the ADHD went undiagnosed. Once I got clean I couldn't sit still, interupted everyone, bounced from room to room in my house when I tried to clean. It talks about us not having the greatest social skills, difficult to maintain relationships, and so on. As an addict it is almost impossible to do those things. So as I said I am having a real hard time with this whole thing. I have been clean for 3+ years, and I thank god everyday that I found recovery. If you are struggling with drugs, including alcohol, and your ADD/ADHD, find yourself a 12step program, get clean and you will be able to better manage your disorder and your disease. If there are any others out there with the same story please feel free to contact me. I'd love to know how you are coping, and the things you do to stay sane.
