My 14 1/2 y/o foster son takes Ritalin LA. 20mg in the am and 10 mg. in the afternoon.. However he is constantly complaining that he can't concentrate. His teacher says that in class he sees him struggling to focus and then lose it and then fight it again and lose the battle and then give up. I know the Ritalin helps w/ his hyperactivity. However is there something else that can help him w/ the focusing. I would love to work something out before he enters the high school "era" of his life!

There are many different medications available today to help reduce the symptoms of ADHD. Ritalin is one such medication. All of the ADHD medications should help to reduce hyperactivity and impulsivenss and increase attention.
Different people will react differently to medications, so many times it is a matter of trial and error to find the right medication and the right dosage. Therefore, there is no right or best medication for ADHD, it all depends on the individual.
Talk with your doctor and see if he or she recommends trying a different medication.
