Q: I have ADHD and mild OCD. I recently have been put on Adderall, with that make the OCD worse?

When I was 13 I was put on dexedrine to treat ADHD.  I was taken off the medication a few months later due to an eating disorder.  Then they decided to prescribe me a non-stimulant adhd medication, wellbutrin.  I never had any OCD traits prior to the age of 15 and then I started having really bad compulsions.  I felt the need to touch things four times and very very quitely hum while doing it.  It drove me absolutely insane.  I stopped taking the Wellbutrin when I was 17/18 and my OCD pratically went away except when I was stressed out.  Recently, I went back to the psychiatrist and they put me on a low dosage of adderall.......I'm very skeptical about taking any medication because it makes me soooooo nervous due to the terrible OCD when I was a teenager.  Will Adderall make it come back or could it actually make the OCD better?

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

Some people report that Adderall has helped OCD. Please be aware, however, that medication reacts differently in each person, therefore, what works for you may not necessarily work for someone else and vice versa. Remember, if you decide to try the Adderall, you can always stop it should you experience adverse reactions.

Thank you very much for the quick response.  I have been taking the adderall for a little over a week now and it seems to be working great.  Although, I do take a very low dosage.

Thanks,

Courtney
