Tuesday, November 11, 2008 JO asks

Q: i have heard that older fathers are more likely to produce children with adhd is this a fact

i am completely my independent enquiry for my BA (Hons) and am looking at adhd, mostly about how food (additives) affect these children, but i was given some information verbally that older fathers are more likely to produce children with adhd and would like to know if this is a true fact and if so where i might find a journal article to support this notion

many thanks

Hi Jo,

There are studies that show that older fathers are at risk of having children with Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia, but I am unaware of any data showing that there is also a risk of having children with ADHD.

Hope this helps!

Terry
