Q: I think I might be severly depressed and have ADHD I have most of the symptoms for both. Yet my parents think all this stuff is C***. How can I get them to understand what im going through?

I've thought this for a while, I even brought it up my dad before and he just laughed. ME and my parents have a very bad relationships thanks to my poor descision making, and my attitude, and I wont to make things better. But I dont know if i can. I think my depression comes from 2 things. being sexually abused by another family member & moving to America from England was another big factor for me too. I had a hard time concentrating in shcool. I couldnt pay attention, I didnt even graduate. I'm angry with the way my life has turned out and I need help. :(

Hi Snowflake86

It is interesting that you write this because I just wrote two posts on this very topic:  Children Deserve Mental Wellness Too and Celebrate Children's Mental Health Awareness Week.

If you are in pain and hurting...you deserve to get some help.  I am amazed by how many parents will not listen to their children who are telling them...something is wrong.  Do you have any supports other than your parents?  Any other family members?  Friends?  Parents of friends?  Teachers?  Is there a counselor at school?  I think you need to keep reaching out until someone listens.  If you have endured sexual abuse...this alone is something which can cause great emotional distress.  You need someone to talk to aout all this.

I want to invite you to come over to our depression site...we have many people there who have dealt with these sorts of issues...I am one of those people.

You may want to take a look at the NAMI site as they have an information hotline.  Here is the number:  The Information HelpLine is an information and referral service which can be reached by calling 1 (800) 950-NAMI (6264), Monday through Friday, 10 am- 6 pm, Eastern time.

I hope this helps some.  Keep reaching out...get someone to listen so you can get help.  I am sorry you are going through this.

Let us know how you are doing in the days and weeks to come.

well, i would talk to a doctor or somebody then, they could talk to your parents and you about it and see if you can get tested for it, and think before you do something say will this pay off in the long-run? or should i to the right thing and say no.
