Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

Please tell us a little more about your situation. What is going on in school? Is your son being disruptive? Being aggressive? What types of behaviors does the teacher call you about?

Also, do you have any accommodations for your son? Has he been evaluated for eligibility for an IEP or Section 504?

Please let us know and we will try to find additional information to help you out.

Crying Momma,

Let me tell you I know where you are coming from, it was not that long ago for me. I also must add that I also have the gift of ADHD. both my son and i won the jackpot and are the combined type.

I have 3 possible answers for you.

#1. Your son may be on the wrong type of medication or the wrong dose and needs an adjustment. Finding the right medication and dose is not an exact science and it is pretty much a trial and error process. We can be very sensitive to the differences between a name brand and a generic pill.  Call his doctor and tell them what is going on at school. Talk to the teacher and your son, get their stories.

#2. Medication is NOT A MAGIC BULLET that fixes everything. Your son may need some help learning some social skills and how to interact with other kids. ADHD people (kids and adults) often do not realize what kinds of problems their behaviour causes. We usually don't stop long enough to see the problem. By the time someone tells about it, we have forgotten what happened and we are totally confused by what is happening. A counselor can work with them to teach them these skills.

And #3. Your son may have what is called comorbitites, meaning he may have more problems than just being ADHD. Again, call the doctor and talk about what is going on at school.

Good luck.
