Q: My husband is taking Ritalin and we would like to start trying for a baby. Does Ritalin effect sperm integrity? Is it safe for us to try to have a baby while he is still on the drug?

There has been a lot of discussion on the possible effects on unborn children when mother's take Ritalin and, even then, there are no definitive answers. But doctors do recommend that anyone who is pregnant, or trying to become pregnant, stop using Ritalin.
However, I have not read about any discussions or studies of the effects when the father is taking Ritalin. Usually, medications that a father is taking do not have much of an effect. That said, the best thing to do would be to discuss this with your doctor.
