Q: Are there any natural/herbal remedies to help with symptoms of ADHD?

I have had the feeling for years that my daughter may have some kind of ADHD. Her symptoms have become more noticeable and more frequent. She is failing in school horribly! I have recently decided to get her tested for ADHD, of coarse it was with a regular physician. Now, I'm just waiting to see what they say. In the meantime I am researching and asking questions about this so called disorder. I want to know what kind of natural approaches i can take(e.g. herbs, vitamins, minerals, diet, exercise, sports). Spiritually I have this taken care of, I surround her with as much godly positivity as possible, so don't waste your time on advise that goes against the Word of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Does anybody know of any homeopathic doctors in the Austin, TX area?

Hello

I am sorry to hear about your daughter failing in school.  When will you get to know if she will be diagnosed with ADHD?

There are a number of non-prescription remedies for ADHD symptoms.  But I would caution you that just because something is being marketed as "natural" does not mean that it is safe.  Many supplements contain fillers and unknown ingredients.  I just wrote an article on a supplement called GABA you may want to research.  It did not work for my son but some parents claim that it can help decrease anxiety.

We also have a whole section about education.  Your daughter may need special accomodations so that she can have a better chance for success at school. I don't know about your situation but we found that homeschooling met my son's needs.

I would caution you to really research any homeopathic practitioners before you would go that route.  I have had more than a few friends get ripped off by some unscrupulous individuals who claim to have cures for such things as ADHD or autism and some methods are not only ineffective but downright dangerous for the child.  Be careful.

Here are some therapists in the Austin area who specialize in ADHD.  And here are Christian therapists for your area...you will have to see if any specialize in ADHD.

Hope this helps some.  Let us know how things go.
