Q: Howcan ADHD woman fight urge to spend to spend huge amounts of time in stores "window shopping?"

Fortunately, I do not spend (money) too excessively, but I have noticed that all my life I "shop" by looking at items. I try to conceive of any and every thing that I think I could use/need for myself, my home, my family. Then I spend lots of time researching /analyzing the options. And it can be any store, the Walgreens, Lowes, Home Depot, the local grocery store. Of most of my preteen years, I remember spending loads of time looking through the Sears' or JCPenney's catalogs to "plan" my dream home with furnishings and I drew up floor plans of my dream home. (Should have been an architect!) I still seem to obsess over "things." It really hurts my family life and it also is one of my vehicles for procrastination. Any suggestions help.

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

Many adults with ADHD have difficulties similar to yours. Although they may not "window shop" they may be obsessed with other things. Some find they spend way too much time online or, as Terry Matlen observes, on trivial things that seem more important at the time.

Terry offers her perspective on obsessing as well as numerous suggestions for decreasing this behavior in : Stop Obsessing

I hope this helps
