Q: Is Adderall XR safe?

Is Adderall XR (5mg) safe for a 4 year old?  I have had two doctors tell me yes, but everthing I read on the internet says it should be used in ages 6 and up.

Hi Angie,

The medication is only approved by the FDA for use in children over the age of 6. This is because the medication has not been studied in children younger than six. The doctors that you've spoken to have probably used the medication in other children that are under the age of six with success, and that's why they're telling you that it's okay to use.

Best of luck,

Casey

Our pediatrician prescribed it for our 5 yr old. I trust her. Unfortunately, it did make her sick(upset tummy) and very moody. We have since changed to methylphendine(spelling?) and have been pleased. Good luck!
