my child takes focalin and has started to have trouble sleeping i was woken up by him yelling and je

my son will be asleep and yelling we wake him up and he says his troat hurts and head hurts i have seen his jerking is this one of the side effects????he is on focalin xr 15 mg.and he is 6 years old.HELP

Hi Sue,

 

Thank you for your question! Sore throat, insomnia, and restlessness are all side effects of Focalin. However, your son's unusual behavior during sleep and twitching/tics are very serious effects that may be caused by the medication. You should definitely speak with your son's doctor and let him or her know what your son has been experiencing. You can read more about Focalin (and its side effects) here.
