I can tell you that Clonidine should only be stopped under a doctor's supervision. Usually this medication is slowly stopped rather than stopping at once. Withdrawal symptoms can include headache, irritability, aggitation and insomnia.
If your child, or a child you know, suddenly stopped taking this medication and is experiencing these types of symptoms, you should immediately speak with a doctor.

What was the reason for the prescription for Clonidine for your three year old? For my son who is fifteen, there was a two week weaning process to get off the clonidine. For us we noticed much less sedation and less irritation. But we were adding other medication to replace the Clonidine. If your child is taking it for sleep, sleep may be affected once he or she stops taking this medication.
Every child is going to react diffferently. I think your best bet is to discuss this with your child's doctor.
