Q: PLEASE HELP? I am an ADHD single mother of three? The police took my kids and they are in danger!?

I need HELP!!! I am an ADHD mom with 3 kids and single and one child with ADD. My 12 year old started hitting me and his younger siblings and got rewarded by ex husband. My middle son with ADD talks to the school counseler and lied saying I was hitting him for attention like his brother. DHS came to my house in which they said was very nice back in Nov. where he admitted to lies and i was told to call police if i was ever hit again. All of my kids were removed by the cop and DHS never investigated report and all 3 of my kids were removed for my son punching me and doing what the state of michigan said. They were eventually placed with their abusive fathers and  my 5 year old little girl could be in danger. My lawyer is not willing to fight my case and my kids are suffering. i am a good mom. I would never hit them and my house being in disarray on the police report was reason enough for this. They are holding my ADHD against me and not working with me at all. I need legal help NOW!!!!!!!!! It has been almost four months please help me. How can Wayne county do this?

I am sorry you are having such a hard time right now (hard time is an understatement, isn't it?) I can't imagine what you have been going through. Why is it your lawyer doesn't want to fight for you? Are you eligible for free legal help through your county?

 

You can also try to reach out to ADHD support groups in your area. CHADD has a listing of groups in Michigan:

Possibly someone at one of the support groups would be able to point you in the direction of resources in your area.

I have ADD and 4 girls with varying degrees of ADD/ADHD, I lost the youngest 2 to their very ill and abusive father for a time after my 2nd divorce(not from their father) and a forclosure on my home. My best support in getting them back was the local domestic violence shelters staff and resources. They were not all that knowledgeble about ADD but they did no all about good moms being messed over by a system that still in this day and age favors fathers who have money, careers and a persona of stability. Talk with them and try and also get statements from doctors and therapists you can trust about yours and your kids mental health to present to DSS. It will be hard but take your meds, don't lose your temper and do not cry in front of officials(they use emotional outbursts as examples of instability)try to calmly state your case, if possible at a hearing and see if the (a lot of shelters have a paralegal)shelters paralegal can go with you.

Even if you are not in the shelter they will help. Don't lose hope, be strong for your kids, YOU CAN WIN.
