Autism is being defined so differently as they are finding a whole spectrum of disorders along those lines. My son was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder- Not Otherwise Specified. Sounds like alot but it means that he doesn't have one type of disorder in the spectrum of autism, but rather has bits of several kinds. He has limited understanding of social interaction, other peaple's emotions, and the flow of conversation between two peole. He doesn't understand idioms like: "It's raining cats and dogs" and misses out on the use of facial expressions, gestures and tones of voice and the meaning of how they are being used in everyday conversaion.
