Q: MY CHILD IS 2 1/2 AND IVE NOTICED THAT HE HAS MOST OF THE SYMTOMS FOR ADHD

HE IS ALWAYS DOING SOMETHING HE CANOT SIT FOR A MINUTE, HE SOMETIMES WONT SLEEP OR EAT BECAUSE HE GETS TO EASILY DISTRACTED. SOMETIMES ITS 10:00PM AND HE'S TIERD BUT HE PREFES TO BE PLAYING AND I CANT GET HIM TO SLEEP. I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THAT JUST THE TERRIBLE 2S OR IF MY SON NEEDS TO SEE A SPECIALIST. IAM AFRAID HI GOING TO HURT HIMSELF.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice or let you know whether your son should see a specialist.

 

I can tell you, based on my experience and in talking with other parents, that most parents will start with their family doctor when they feel there may be a problem. Many doctors, however, are reluctant to diagnose a child as young as 2 because symptoms of ADHD can be similar to those of an active 2 year old child.
