UK difficulties

I have recently moved from the States to the UK and my new doctor is very hesitant to continue prescribing me Adderral for my ADHD.  She said she didn't want to 'condemn me to a life of taking very powerful drugs'.  I appreciate why a doctor or anyone would feel this way, but I've been living very successfully (not so previously) on medication for several years now and am struggling once again now that I'm off.  I don't want to side step her expertise, but I'm confident that she is mistaken in not allowing, or in this case delaying me from restarting.  How do I proceed?

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

Opinions regarding ADHD, treatment and medications can vary a great deal between cultures and countries as well as from doctor to doctor.

I would suggest finding a support group in the UK (you can try www.adders.org) and talking to other adults currently being treated for ADHD in the area you are now living. You may be able to receive a referral to a doctor that has treatment philosophies closer to your own.
