Finding the right medication for my ADHD
I am 18 years old and am diagnosed with ADHD and have been prescribed multiple meds since my diagnosis at age six. My doctor started me on vyvanse about three weeks ago and some of the side effects are interfering with my life. I have tried non time release stimulants for my condition before when i was younger, starting with Ritalin then Aderall. Since then i've tried Aderall XR, Focalin XR, Stratera(which did not help very much although i followed my doctors advice and gave it about a month to notice changes). And currently I have an alternating schedule so my 12 hour medication(Vyvanse) doesnt suit me because it interferes with my sleep. The Vyvanse does help and it does its job keeping me focused, motivated on current tasks, and finishing work without jumping around to other tasks which are my personal problems associated with my ADHD. I have an alternating schedule with my jobs so if i work late then sleep in i dont take my next dose till the afternoon so it throws off my sleep schedule.
My questions are what stimulants are avalible for ADHD that arent extended release and have a less active time frame so that i can take when needed instead of in the morning at different times and if needed take just one during the day?
I don't know mych about non XR ADHD meds so i wanted to know which ones are avalible and what their effective duration is?
Of all of the meds i have tried in the past the Focalin XR was the most effective with the least side effects and with some of the other XR meds i've been prescribed their effective duration lasted over 12 hours which interfered with my sleep. So knowing that the Focalin XR seemed most effective and i do know that they manufacture it in non time release form, so knowing my issues with the meds i have listed when i consult my psychiatrist are there any recommendations on some other stimulants that might better suit me?

There are a number of short acting medications that you can discuss with your doctor:
Ritalin and Focalin both come in a short acting medication which would last approximately 4 hours.
Adderall and Dexedrine come in a short acting medication which normally last between 4 and 5 hours
Desoxyn is a short acting medication which lasts between 4 and 5 hours
