ADD meds not covered by insurance. Is there any help?

My 17 year old son has finally found the magic mix of Lexapro and Straterra to relieve his ADD symptoms only to find out our medical insurance will not cover anything ADD/ADHD related, i.e. doctor appointments, meds. Is there any help for those of us who have enough income to live and not be on public assistance but not enough money for the outragious price of ADD meds? The cost of Straterra would put us in the poor house.

Thank you for your question.

Many of the pharmaceutical companies will work to help those that cannot afford medications with either free or low cost medications.

There is additional information on this:

Free or Low Cost Medications

I hope this helps

Hi there!

I just want to add to what Eileen has told you by telling you that I have just written an article for the depression site which may be of help to you.  I wrote about how to pay for meds when you do not have insurance or money.  Here is that link.  Please do check out the comments to this article as there is a commenter who gives specific advice about how to obtain meds when you cannot afford it.

I will give you one quick resource to check out now:

You may also call the Partnership for Prescription Assistance with this toll free number:  1-888-477-2669

I hope this helps some!  Thank you for your question.
