A Psychiatrist or Psychologist is the simple answer. Finding the right one is quite another. I was not diagnosed until age 33. I must have seen at least 15 neurologists, 5 psychiatrists, and 10 psychologists whom all misdiagnosed me. My advice is to find a psychiatrist that will do a full evaluation which should take about an hour and a half. This should be someone who is up to date and someone who treats you as an individual unique from anyone else.

My psychiatrist saved my life. I was trying to self medicate with my migraine medication. I went to 4 drug rehab centers in which I relapsed shortly after. It could have been 400 because I couldn't function with or without the pills. I have now 3 children. The abuse started after my first son was born. I believe due to the overload of being responsible for another person besides myself. Then there were 2 boys! My husband was abusive and conrolling. Being on my own was better but I was treating myself which was hurting everyone.

Once I was treated for ADHD I never had a thought of taking the pills. I have been clean since. I don't know what area you live in but I have found that good psychiatrists that spend the time ("not 10 min. you are this here is your script next please") to diagnose and treat are few and far between. Research new information and see how long the doctor schedules for you. Ask him about something new in research to see if they are keeping up. Research the doctor. You may have to drive a little further away. It is worth it.
