Q: what to treat first...depression or ADD

I read a lot about ADD and ADHD a long time ago but apparently did not understand that they are essentially the same.  I did not know they are treated with the same medication.  So now is it possible my depression could clear up if I for once get on something to treat ADD (the thing that might actually be causing it)?

Thank you for your question.

It is impossible to say which condition should be treated first. Normally, the condition which is causing the most impairment is treated first, however, sometimes both conditions are treated at the same time as symptoms of one may interfere with treatment of the other.

This is a question you would need to discuss with your mental health provider.
