Q: adhd medications and sensory processing disorder

Hi, I was diagnosed with add years ago by a specialist who tested me.  It wasnt really taken seriously by any psychiatrists until 2 years ago.  I did try a few meds about 5 years ago, very short term due to the side effects, and that psychiatrists insistance that I was bipolar.  2 years ago, I became a patient of that old psychiatrist boss.  He has been wonderful and considering the actual facts of my case, the results of a million drug trials, and listening.  About 2 months ago he determined that I was not bipolar.  I do have PTSD, ADD, and most likely sensory processing disorder.  I had been taking Adderall over the past 2 years and it helped alot.  It did seem that when the medication was leaving my brain though, that the sensory overload was magnified even worse than it had been my whole life.  Basically like a rebound effect.  Now I am trying vyvanese and I am super confused over the dosing.  It doesnt seem to work and the sensory thing is now a constant bad thing.  I have read that 30mg of Vyvanese equals about 10mg of Adderall.  But my doctor said that the Vyvanese was stronger??  That has not been my actual experience at all.  Could he just have been confused about it since its new for adults?  I was wondering also if the stimulating meds make the sensory processing disorder worse for others?  My senses of smell, sound and touch are ultra sensative when the medication is wearing off, and that has been the case for quite some time now.  What is recommended with the 3 coexisting diagnosis?  Adderall is the only thing that has helped me, a lot, in the last 11 years, and I have tried the other non-stimulating drugs and they made me almost a zombie, catatonic like.  What would be recommended to combat the sensory thing??  I do intend to ask my doctor that too, but was curious if anyone else had any experiences like this and how they cope with it.  Thanks

having an identical diagnosis and simmilar experiences in the mental health field doesn't make me an expert, but it does mean "i totally get it". i tryed vyvance and actually fired my doctor after that... it took a while to find someone who would put me bac k on adderal... which for me has been the most helpful treatment i've ever gotten.
