Pharm Mom, I am so sorry to hear your son is experiencing such pain. I know how you feel, especially not knowing where to turn to get help. If you notice my post was in June of 2009 and it is now 2011. To answer your question, no we did not stop the Vyvanse. We adjusted the dosage and she had to do less physical contact sports. After SEVERAL different doctors we ended up at a pediatric Gyno. They thought I was crazy but her pain seemed to intensify once a month. I kept a food, activity and mood journal for her. We were able to attribute a good portion of the pain to teenage hormonal changes. Which is easier to pin point with a girl because they have the monthly indicator. Boys I am told still have major teen hormone issues but it is harder to make the connection. You might check that avenue? We did the glucosamine & supplements which seem to help some. With that being said I am still not convinced that the Vyvanse might have a role to play. We were able to manage the pain but her symptoms seem to be amping up again. Over the holidays I plan on tapering her off, just for piece of mind and to rule out the issue. She likes Vyvanse because it has less rebound affect, no heart palpitations and no jittery feeling but this constant pain is not worth it, if the drug is the culprit, and the symptoms continue to arise?? I am sure you have done all the CT,MRI,EKG,Blood tests, etc? Heck we even did a full body bone scan and all clear. She is a tough little gal and for her to say she is in pain it has to be bad. I know this doesn't give you and definite answers but maybe describing our journey will help? I would dump that Dr that won't treat him and find one that is willing to be a real Dr and help his patient until some answers are found or some relief! I hope you can get some answers for your son and find relief. I will let you know how it goes with us after stopping the medication. Keep me updated on what you find out with your son and any treatments you find that work.
