Q: my 6 year old daughter started taking vyvanse a month ago, she now licks her fingers and touches her face or leg all day long, she has also become very aggressive< are these side effects????

She is very defiant and will not listen to teachers or myself, she has started hitting also. I don't know if this is problems with ADHD or is she just spoiled from bad parenting?

Thank you for your question and welcome to ADHDCentral.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

If these behaviors began since your daughter began taking the medication, I would contact your doctor and talk to him about her behaviors. Aggressiveness and mood changes can be a side effect, but your doctor should know about what is going on. He may possibly want to adjust the dosage or try a different medication.

I don't think this is being caused because you are a bad parent.

Please let me know what happens.

My 10 yr old son started Vyvanse 3 weeks ago with a half-dose to adjust to the medication. I found he was emotionally on a roller coaster, especially in the evenings about 7-8pm as the medication was out of his system. He started pounding tables and shoved me, something he had not done before. 3 days ago he was increased to a full dose. Since then he has rubbed his face raw in one spot, the teachers report constant face touching and eye rubbing. He has problems handling his emotions in the afternoon and we were to give a small dose of ritilan to step him down. However, with this face rubbing, we are going to lower the dose back to the half dose over the weekend (no ritilan in the afternoon as we see what the vyvanse does) and if it does not stop, then try another medication. His diagnosis is adhd-inattentive type. The pharmasist I spoke to said its not a listed problem but the doctor did say she had another child with the same face rubbing problem.
