You didn't say which medications your son is taking, or how old he is, but there is some information you might want to check out.
Eileen Baily is a resident expert here and recently Eileen wrote an article about the results of a study on Adolescent ADHD. You can read the entire article here.
You can also read about medications commonly prescribed for AHDH here. You can also read through this overview of ADHD. There is alot of information here that is helpful in asking questions when it's time to see your son's doctor. Online sites are great resources for information but should never be used in place of your doctor's sound medical advice and care.
