Q: I took a 54 mg Concerta and am very jittery

My 17 yr-old son was taking 54mg concerta and said it didn't help him at all. he gained weight on it and his grades didn't go up. He said it made him feel down and gave headaches. My 12-yr-old daughter takes 18mg concerta and it definately helped her grades however, she claims it makes her feel sick. So this morning I took a 54mg Concerta to see if it effects me the same way so I can understand my kids. I feel jittery. I was feeling down past few days because of lots of stress so can't blame concerta however, I am in and out of tears. But.....my mind does feel clearer. Any suggestions?

I hope that you are feeling better this morning. Certainly, Concerta could make you feel jittery as it is a stimulant medication.

Medications affect each person differently, so what may help one of your children may not help the other child. Many times, finding the right medication and the right dosage is a matter of trial and error. You will need to work closely with your doctor and keep track of how your children are feeling. With this information, you can work with the doctor to find the medication that will work the best.
